PANAMA EXHIBITION
WHAT NEW ZEALAND IS DOING MEETING IN WELLINGTON. Presidents and members of A. and P. associations and other' bodies interested in the subject met at Parliament Buildings to-day to discuss with the Prime Minister (the Right Hon. W. F. Massey) preliminaries in connection Avith the representation of New Zealand raw products and manufactures at the San Fran-cisco-Panama Exposition. Besides the Prime Minister there were present Messrs. J. M. Phillips (president of the Auckland A. and P. Association), S. J. Harbutt (president of the Auckland Provincial Industrial Association), P. S. M'Rae (president of the Manawatu A. and P. Association), C. B. Norwood (president of the Wellington Provincial Industrial Association), C. W. Jones (president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce), E. G. Staveley (president of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce), J. Grigg (president of the Canterbury A. and P. Association), J. B. Laurenson (president of the Canterbury Industrial^ Association), E. F. Duthie (representing the Otago A. and P, Association], and J. Loudon (president of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce). Mr. F. S. Pope (Secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce) and Mr. M. O|Brien (Secretary of the Central Committee) wore also present. In welcoming the delegates, the Prime Minister said the Government was fully alive to the necessity, on behalf of the producers and manufacturers of New Zealand, of taking adA'antage of" the re- ! cent revision of the American tariff and the opening of the Panama Canal. The opI portunity thus afforded of opening new markets for our produce and displaying j the various productions of the Dominion ! at San Francieco was one not likely; to recur, and one of which they/sEould take the utmost advantage. The Government voted £15,000 to meet the ex* penso of providing a NeAV Zealand pavilion, and the site was now beingprepared, and native trees and shrubs planted. He hoped that the delegates assembled would form committees in their various centres to enlist the eympathy and co-operation of New Zealand manufacturers and producers. The delegates present assured the Prime Minister of tlje sympathy of their respective districts and of hearty support alter they had been supplied with full details of the undertaking: The Prime Minister expressed himself as being very pleased with tlie ( luianim* ous f and enthusiastic manner in which the representatives present^ had taken up I the matter, and was of opinion that a thoroughly representative display of New Zealand's products would be forthcoming.
