AUSTRALIA V. HAWKES BAY VISITORS WIN BY NINE WICKETS (BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) HASTINGS, 19th February. Requiring 39 to win against Hawkes Bay, the Australians went to the wickets at 3.53, Trumper and M'Gregor being the opening batsmen. Napier bowled from the north end, and five runs were scored off his first over. Ellis trundled from the other end, and singles to each batsman brought 10 up. Trumper then sent Ellis to leg for a couple, and hit the left-hander to the boundary next over. The same batsman brought up 20 with a drive off Ellis. Geake relieved Ellis, and was promptly sent to the boundary by Trumper for 4. The next ball was dispatched for 6, and then Geake clean bowled the champion, who had played good cricket.
