JURY AGAIN DISAGREES
A STRIKE CASE. Tlie retrial of the young man, Roberb Hill, a milk-vendor's employee, was commenced yesterdry afternoon before the Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout. Hill was charged with having takeh part m a riot in Taranaki-street on the 4th November. -The accused was defended by Mr. E. J. Fitzgibbon. Evidence was given in an endeavaut to prove that during, the progress of the riot tin; accused interfered with the arvest of a man named Campbell, and shortly afterwards was himself arrested by Inspector Hendrey for throwing a bottle at the regular police. On being arrested the accused had tried to break away. The defence was that the accuhedwas merely making his way home through Taranaki-street, having just finished stabling the cart-horse in his charge. He had not taken part in the not in any way. _ ( The jury retired at 4.50 p.m., and returned four hours later with the announcement that it was unable to agree. His Honour ordered a new trial, to take place at the next criminal sessions in May. The accused was released in his own recognisance of £50.
