REEKS MURDER
MAN DETAINED AN ADMISSION POLICE NOT SATISFIED. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Times— Sydney Sun Special Cables.) LONDON, 3rd February. The Daily Mail states that Rogers was detained by the Canadian police at St. John's, on the arrival of the Grampian. He admits that his real name is Joseph Rowland, but denies that he knew Reeks. Only six dollars were found in his possession. He states that he lost a wallet containing £28 near Wolverhampton and decided to return to Canada, where he had resided for several years. The authorities consider his statements are not frank, and they are therefore holding him until they can confirm the story of his previous residence in Canada. ANOTHER ADMISSION. MURDERED MAN MET AT AN HOTEL. (Received February 4, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 3rd February. A report, from St. John's states that Rogers now admits to a local police officer, Sergeant Finlay, that he met Reeks at the hotel in England, a report regarding which was discredited by the Wolverhampton police. A DOUBTING SISTER. (Received February 4, 10 a.m.) LONDON, 3rd February. Rogers's sister, interviewed, says Bhe does not believe her brother knew Reeks in Lincolnshire.
