CENTRAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

The Wellington Central Chamber of Commerce met last evening, Mr. C. 11. Luke presiding. Other members present were Messrs. A. Leigh Hunt (vice-president), J. .Reid, J. W. Brodie, F. Townsend, J. F. Atkins, T. Bush, and E. Hall. A letter was received from the Secretary of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce, inviting the co-operation of the chambci 1 in securing the representation of the Dominion at the Panama Exposition. In commending the proposal to the chamber, the Chairman said the question would have (<> be gone into thoroughly. The whole matter should be referred to a committee. Mr. Atkins moved that a committee comprising the Chairman, Messrs. Leigh Hunt and Townsend be delegated to report or the question at the next meeting of the chamber. According to Mr. Leigh Hunt, the proper course for the Department would be to outline some proposal to a representative rommitteo of public bodies interested in the matter. The speaker suggested that representatives of the two Chambers of Commerce, the Industrial Association, the Farmers' Union, and other kindred bodies should meet in conference, having first been given a lead in the matter by the Department. The motion was carried. Tt was decided to meet on the third Monday in each month at 3 p.m.
