OLD WATERSIDE UNION PRESENTATION TO PRESIDENT.
A meeting of the old Waterside Workers' Union held in the Vivian-etreet Hall wa6 fairly attended. Mr. 1? Curtice, the president, was in the chair. The half-yearly report and balancesheet was adopted. The following charter of the Social and Democratic Party (to which tho union is affiliated), signed by the president (Mr. H. Hunter) and vice-president (Mr. P Frnser), was received: — "On and after the date hereof (28th October) this organisation shall be entitled to all the rights and privileges of membership of the Social Democratic Party in all its local and national bodies as long as- tho proper receipts shall bo attached hereto in the voucher space in payment for all contributions at any time to be payablo to this body, subject always to the constitution of tho Social Democratic Party."' Attached to the charter was a receipt for the sum of £20 contributed by the Waterside Workers' Union: Addresses were given by Mr. H. Holland, editor of the Maoriland Worker, and Mr. P. Fraser, vice-presidnnt of tho Social Democratic Party, dealing with tho party's policy at the Mayoral and general Parliamentary elections, and a. discussion took place in connection with the selection of a candidate to represent the party at the Mayoral election. In recognition of the services rendered by him during tho recent industrial trouble, tho president was granted six months' leave of absence and presented ivilh a purse of sovereigns. Mr. Curtice was also handed first-class railway fares to Auckland foi himself and Mrs. Curtico to enable them to attend the Auckland Exhibition.
