An eighteeti'mcnths-old child, belonging to Mr. Martih, of Te Horo, strayed on to the railway lino on Monday afternoon, just as tho Napier express was entering the atation. The driver, with great presence of mind, jammed on the brakes, pulling up the engine just as it touoheo the child, who escaped unhurt. Mrs. Byron Brown and Miss Brown, who have been in Wellington for three months, return home on Saturday, both much improved after indisposition, The death occurred at Manakau yes' terday of Mrs. Julia Anne Bayne, mother of Mrs. B Heap, of Manakau, and Mr. J. Bayne. of Taiunarunui. The deceased, who was 66 years of age, will be buried to-morrow at Manakau.
