DEATH OF A SAILOR

♦ — The death occurred in Wellington Hospital thiß afternoon of William Clancy, who met with an accident on the Ruilway Wharf last Monday. The deceased, who was a native of England, joined tho vessel at Sydney three months ago. On Monday afternoon he was assisting to discharge the coal which the Titania had brought from Newcnstlo, when ho was knocked down on to (he wharf by ono of tho baskets as it swung between the vessel's side and a truck on the wharf. Ho fell on to his head, and in addition to some severe bruises, he sustained concussion of tho brain. He never regained consciousness, and died shortly before 2 p.m. to-day.

Mr. J. R. Gardner, Town Clerk at Petone. returned yesterday from * holiday tnp to Sydney..
