FIGHT AT TACOMA
STRIKERS IN PITCHED BATTLE MILITIA CALLED OUT. (Br Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received January 6, 2 p.m.) TACOMA, sth January. Austrian strikers fought a pitched battle on a hill overlooked the Tacoma smelter plant, at which the men had recently declared a strike. Several persons were injured. A body of sharpshooters speedily silenced the Austrians after a fierce interchange of bullets. It is not known if the Austrians were injured. The militia was ordered out.
