MR. A. M. MYERS IN LONDON DEFENCE OF THE PACIFIC COMPLIMENT TO NEW ZEALANDERS. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received December 23, 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, 22nd December. The Agents-General entertained the Mr. A. M. Myers, ex-Minister for Defence in New Zealand, at luncheon at the Colonial Institute. Major-General Bevan Edwards, who presided, recalled that he had inspected the New Zealand Forces in 1889, and there was no finer material for soldiers in the world.. Mr. Myers dealt with finance and defence. He justified New Zealand loans' on the ground that the money was devoted to reproductive works. Australia, Canada, and Now Zealand should unite to relieve Great Britain of the defence of the Pacific. ("Major-General J. Bevan Edwards, C.8., at the time commanding the troops in China and Hong Kong, made a report on the New Zealand Defence Forces in 1889, which report was presented to Parliament in 1890.}
