AMERICANS AT INVERCARGILL KEDDELL BEATS TEMPLETG2T. (BY TBLBQIUPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) INVERCARGILL, 17th Dec. The American athletes paid a visit to Invercargill and were present at a sports meeting under the auspices of the Southland Amateur Athletic Association here to-day. The main attraction was the meeting |of Templeton and Keddell in the 120 j Yards Hurdles, which race the latter won by three inches in 16 l-ssec. Templej ton led for the greater part of the way, but Keddell camo over the last part of the journey with a fine burst of speed and just got up on the tape to win by I inches. \ The time was given as 16 I l-ssec, but the runners had to contend with bad meteorological conditions and a nasty cross wind. It was the best race ever witnessed in Southland over hurdles. Later on Keddell won the 120 Yards Hurdles in similar time. ■ With the exception of Parker (sprinter) the Americans were all suffering from j minor ailments. Although Power man- | aged to dead-heat with the 105 yards i man in the Mile he is still far from well, and may go straight through to Wellington to-morrow to try to regain form there by a course of training. Templeton was confined to his room on Tuesday with a severe cold, and although he competed in a largo number of events he did not perform as well as at Christchurch. In the High Jump the American cleared sft Bin, but was defeated in the Pole Vault by a local lad, H. H. Whitaker, at 10ft 3in.
