THEFTS FROM HOTELS

(BY TBLBGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, 17th December. Roderick Munro, alias Bert Williams; and James Alfred Martin, alias Thomas Burton, .appeared together before Mr. Henry Widdowson r S.M., in the Police Court to-day, and were charged with a series of thefts from hotels, the charges being :— (1)' That on or about 15th November they stole from Wain's Hotel, one kit bag and its contents, of a total value of £7 10s, tho property of Frederick Jones; (2) that on or about 24th November they stole from Tattersall's Hotel a pair of hair brushes and two razors, valued at £2 10s, the property of James C. Olive; (3) that on Bth December they were found by night in Crown Hotel with intent to commit a crime; (4) that oil 15th November they stole from Wood's Private Hotel an overcoat valued 'at £3 10s, the property of Samuel Davonport Evidence having been given in connection with each charge, and accused having reserved their defence with regard to each, both were committed for trial, bail being allowed for each in his own recognisance of £200 and two sureties of, £100 each. On a further charge of the theft of an overcoat, Martin was remanded till the 24th inst.
