There are now almost 200 mounted tpecial constables quartered at Mount Cook Barracks. Captain Cameron is carrying out the duties of chief "staff officer in place of Colonel Pringle, who has returned to Palmerston North. It is probable that contingent of men. t will return to their homes either at the end 'of thus week or th« beginning of Tiext, but about 100 will remain on duty over, the Christmas season. Names ana addresses of the men who leave are being kept/ on record so that if the occasion require it they can be very speedily called back to the city.
