THIRD DEGREE METHODS
PROHIBITED IN VICTORIA. (By. Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) MELBOURNE, 16th December. As ■ a result of a report submitted by the Chief Commissioner of Police regarding "the Newman case, the Chief Secretary has piohibited "third degree" methods of examination. [It was 'stated last week .in connection with the police enquiries into the infant murders in Melbourne^ where* sensational disclosures followed upon the suicide of a woman named Mrs. Newman, that the methods of the American "third degree" were being applied in the examination of the deceased woman's husband and children. The children were subjected to twelve hours' examination, and the husband to fourteen.]
