In connection with the fire in the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin'fi famous castle- at Schwerin, it ifi believed the outbreak was caused by a discharged servant in revenge. t Only one fire engine was available. A violent wind storm caused the conflagration to spread with lightning rapidity. The famous Golden Hall and Golden Staircase were destroyed. The entire garrison fought the flamee, and succeeded in rescuing historical documents. The damage is set down At £150,000.
