It is reported from Grand Junction (Colorado) that an explosion in the Vulcan mine, in the neighbourhood of Newcastle, entombed forty or fifty miners. The rescuers are Unable to enter owing to after damp. (Received December 17, 11 a.m.) NEWCASTLE (Colorado), 16th Dec. Thirty-eight of the miners are dead.' The rescuers were unable* to find a /single living person. Several bodies have been recovered It is not known whether the explosion is due to dust or gas. The rescue work is being continued.
