A submarine disturbance agitated the sea violently along the Californian coast. The wreck of an ancient vessel, believed to have lain at the bottom of the sea for a hundred years, was cast ashore. Its identification is impossible. A mastodon's skull, with tusks and a large portion of the vertebrae intact, was also thrown ashore. Foreshore works in many places along the coast were damaged by the violence of the waves.
