SUNDAY TRAMS VIEWS OF MINISTERS. (PRHSS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, 16th Dec. At the Presbyterian General Assembly j this morning several references were made to Sunday trams. The Rev. Jas. M'Caw said that he was ; called upon the previous day to take a | service at Sumner, and had taken a car. He had been shamed by hearing of a minister who had walked five miles. He l.had taken a car, and perhaps he should not be clerk. The Rev. J. H, M'Kenzie: Certainly not. It is utterly vain for this Assembly to keep this committee in existence so Jong as our ministers are found employing tram-cars and men on them, on Sundays. You might as well abolish this committee for all the good it can do. The Rev. P. B, Frasev entered a mild and respectful protest against the statement that no ont) i» to go on a tram-car on the Sabbath. If they set that up as their ideal, they were putting a preposterous notion before the community. It might do in small tows— (A voice ; "Like .Nelson"), but, if they dictated to the people of Auckland or Wellington or Chnstchurch or Dunedin on the subject they would be making a profound mistake. "I am not caring," he added, "about any Christianity that ii not good enough for the whoje, world." The Rev. Chas. Murray (Chnstchurch) said that he was at one time 'a strict Sabbatarian, but he had modified his views. He did not, however, see why principles that applied to Christchurch should not apply to Nelson— a township that was well spread out. x THEFTS FROM LAUNCHES AUCKLAND, 15th December.
