DISCUSSION IN PARLIAMENT. In regard to the vote for the cost of the strike, £100,000, Mr. Witty asked in the House of Representatives this afternoon if that was the total cost up to date. Hon. W. F. Massey* More. Sir Joseph Ward asked for some of the details. Were the whole of the special constables paid, and what amount were they paid? The Hon. A. L. Herdman said the mounted constables received 10s a_ day. Those foot specials who were paid received 8s a day, but quite a number were not paid. The amount of £100,000 was only an estimate. In Christchurch tney were all disbanded. There are no foot specials in Auckland, and the number of mounted specials in the other centres was being gradually reduced.
