PRIZE LISTS

CONVENT PUPILS BREAKING-UP CEREMONY ST. MARY'S COLLEGE. Last evening saw the end of the scholastic year as far as St. Mary's College, conducted by the Sisters of Mercy, was concerned. The breakingup function was held in the Guilfordterrace Hall, which was filled with a, large assemblage of parents and friends. His Grace Archbishop Redwood presided, and amongst others present were His Grace Coadjutor Archbishop O'Shea, Yen. Archdeacon Devoy, Rev. Father Hickson, S.M., Administrator, Rev. Father Roche, C.SS.R., and the Rev. Father WV Schaefer, S.M., of St. Patrick's College. After the concert programme had been gone through his Grace Archbishop Redwood briefly addressed the pupils. He referred appreciatively to the excellent manner in which they had given their concert, and to the high degree of proficiency attained in the singing— a part of the curriculum for which the convent pupils were justly famed. He quoted from the inspector's report upon the work of the school, which showed that the standard set was high and the work accomplished excellent. There were 151 pupils on the roll. Two pupils were presented for senior Civil Service, and Doth passed in every subject, one Miss < Veronica Flannigart, getting the maximum in - shorthand. The highest marks obtained in Latin in the Dominion were also obtained by her. Twelve passed the junior Civil Service, five with distinction. In standard VI, 22 were presented for examination, and of these 18 were successful in gaining proficiency and 4 competency. At the recent Royal Academy examinations two girls passed the Licentiate and two were also successful in gaining the Associate Diploma of the Trinity College. Pupils to the number of 70 passed various degrees of these public musical examinations, and 35 passed harmony and I counter-point. His Grace said it was his custom to give' a "medal for the best written essay. This year the English composition had surpassed former years, and it gave him very great pleasure to note this development and improvement from year to year. His Grace Coadjutor Archbishop O'Shea also spoke. PRIZE LIST The distribution of prizes followed the concert. The list is appended :—: — GOOD CONDUCT PRIZES.
