MR. ALFRED RUSSEL WALLACE. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received November 8, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 7th November, Mr. Alfred Russel Wallace, 0.M., LL.D., F.R.S.j occasional author and president of the Land Nationalisation Society, is dead. j [Alt'. Wallace was born at Usk, Monmouthshire, 'in January, 1823, and edu- j cated at Hertford Grammar School. With his elder brother, he practised as a land surveyor and architect from 1838 to 1844 ; he went to the Amazon with Bates (1854-1862); and since then had been occupied with natural history, social science, and scientific literature. In 1886--87 he lectured in America. His publications include : "Travels on the Amazon," "The Malay Archipelago," "Natural Selection," " Miracles and Modern Spiritualism," "The Geographical Distribution of Animals," Tropical Nature," "Australasia,"- "Island Life," "Land Nationalisation," "Bad Times," "Darwinism," "Vaccination a Delusion," " Is Mars Habitable?" and other books. Besides, he has written numerous scientific papers and popular articles.]
