FIFTH AFTERNOON The increasing popularity of the Com- ] petitions was manifested yesterday after- j noon by the number of people who occu- j pied seats in the large room at the Town Hall.- The results of an attractive programme are as follow :— PIANO SOLO (under 18)— Test Piece :_ "Liebestraum," No. 2, Liszt. (Breit-' kopf and Hartel, or Bosworth edition). —First prize, £1 10s ; second 155. . Tho following competed : Norman K. Thomson, Albert Edward Tremain, Leopold E. von Keisenberg, H. P. Briasco (Napier), Gladys Townsley, Marjorie H. Shepherd, Vera Moore (Dunedin), Doris Easson. Mr. Gregson decided to recall Mr. Briasco, Miss Moore, and Miss Easson. SCOTCH SONG (ladies). Own selection. First prize, £2; second, £1. Miss Elvira Cameron (Auckland), " ConnV Though tho Eye " ; Miss Kathleen Wheeler (Mataura), "Kobiii Adair"; Miss Carey Wallace (Dunedin), " Annie Laurie " ; Miss Mary Rait (Petono), ''We'd Better Bide Awee " ; Mrs. C. E. Watson, "My Am Folk"; Miss Ethel V. Carter (Auckland), "Robin Adair"; Miss Myfanwy Owen, "Annie Laurie"; Miss Pitcher (Dunedin), " The Auld Scotch Songs " ; Mrs. Ivo Synies (Wanganui), " Border Ballads." Mr. Gregjson decided to recall Miss Wallace. 1 Miss Carter, and Mrs. Symes ; honourable mention, Miss Wheeler. SACRED SOLO (gentleman). Own selection. First prize, £2; second, £1. . Mr. T. H. Heketa (Kilbirnie), " Lead, Kindly Light " ; Mr. George J. Blackie (Dunedin), " If With all Your Hearts " ; Mr. Percy H. Davie (Masterton), "It is Enough " ; Mr. John Boyce, " Thus Saith the Lord " ; Mr. Frank Tunley, " Pro Peccatis " ; Mr. George H. Beacon, "The Promise of Life"; Mr. George H. Andrews (Timaru), "It is Enough " ; Mr. Jonathan H. Bowman, "How Many Hired Servants"] Mr. H. Phipps, "My Hope is in the Everlasting ; Mr. C. I. Spillane (Wanganui), "A Legend"; Mr. Hutchinson (Auckland), " Nazareth " ; Mr. A. G. Thompson (Nelson), "A Prayer." Mr. Baeyertz said that this was one of the best singing sections which he had judged in the competitions. Most of the competitors had sung well, and had selected good solos. He had selected for recall Messrs. Andrews. Phipps, •Spillane, and Thompson ; honourable mention, Messrs. Heketa, Blackie, Davie, Tunley, and Hutchinson. VOCAL SOLO AND ACCOMPANIMENT (ladies or gentlemen, both amateurs). Own selection. To be judged both on singing and accompaniment. First prize, £2; second, £1. Mr. i Dugald C.
