SENSATIONAL ARREST

MAN WITH GELIGNITE IN HIS POSSESSION. HEAVY BAIL ASKED. AUCKLAND, This Day. A man named William Thomas Doyle was arrested by the police. He had in his possession six gelignite cartridges prepared for use. He is charged with having carried oxplosives with intent to commit a crime. It is stated that the charge is supported by a sensational statement by accused as to what the cartridges were intended for. He appeared in Court and was remanded for a week, on bail of one surety of £500 and two of £250 each. Doyle is a labourer, previously known to the police in connection with throwing stones and damaging property at Napier, and assault on a constable at Auckland. It is not suggested that he is connected with the waterside workers.
