CITY COUNCIL AND SPORTS BODIES CHARGES FOR USE OF BATHS AND ' RESERVES. Sports bodies using the City Reserves will be interested in the proposals made by the Reserves CJominitteo to the City Council last evening in regard to charges for tho^use of the Reserves 'and th« percentage to the city of the gato. The recommendations were : — That the* following charges be fixed for the use of j the City ' Reserves when charges are made for admission : For cricket matches, 10 per cent, of gross "'gate" collected; for athletic meetings, £20 full day, and £15 for any meeting starting after 1 p.m., or an alternative of 20 per cent, of the gross "gate." Councillor Fuller protested against the differential treatment of athletic bodies as compared with cricket matches. He thought 10 per cent, all round would be sufficient. < ' Councillor Frost, chairman of the committee, ' pointed out that the Cricket Association spent a large sum annually in the maintenance of the Basin Reserve. Councillor Fuller's amendment to refer the matter back to the committee was defeated^' and the -recommendation adopted. The committee further recommended that the ' following charges be made for use of -the public baths (Thorndon and To Aro) for swimming sports when charges for admission are being made : — 20 per cent, of the gross "gate" with a minimum of £5 per day. Councillor Fuller again protested against 20 per cent, as an excessive amount, and moved that 15 per cent, be charged instead. Councillor Wright urged the necessity of making the baths pay their way. The amendment was lost by 9 votes to 5, and tbe recommendation adopted. The application of the Wellington Cricket Association for permission to use the Basin Reserve on the 13th, 14th, and 15th November for a cricket match, Canterbury v. Wellington, with permission to charge for admission, was granted. The report of the committee that it had Teceived a letter from the Wellington Athletic and Cycling Club, intimating that the club do not intend to proceed with their proposed sporte meeting on the Ba^in Reserve on Ist November, as a protest again&t the charge of 20 per cent, -of the gross takings being imposed by the council was received.
