TWO THOUSAND MEN

OFFER FROM WAIKATO FARMERS DAIRY INDUSTRY THREATENED. FACTORIES MAY~HAVE TO CLOSE DOWN. (BY TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.) HAMILTON, This Day. The Auckland strike is likely to seriously affect the dairying industry in the Waikato. Cold storage in Auckland is practically all taken up, and very little is available for, local storage. If relief is not forthcoming within the next few weeks some of the dairy factories will be compelled to close down. >■ Should such a contingency arrive, the blow .will be a, serious one to the Waikato dairymen, as the factories will be un,able to receive the milk, while herds will still require full attention or they will deteriorate, and the unfortunate owners be compelled to feed milk to the pigs and calves or otherwise dispose of it at considerable loss. The local branch of the Fanners' Union and the Waikato Winter and Summer Show Associations telegraphed to the Hon. Mr. Massey to-day offering to «raise a force of 2000 farmers and sons, armed if necessary, provided they are guaranteed protection. _ It was "decided not to attempt unloading -until the force is thoroughly organised, when the men will be :ready to leave by special trains if necessary. Meantime they are keeping in touch with the Auckland Farmers Union.
