Continuoue rain has fallen for thirty, six hours over the greater part of Southland, and rivers are flooded. _ Between Gore ami M'Nab the railway line is under water, and the first express was unablo to get through So Dunedin. There is a washout; on the Waikaka branch, and Nightcaps and Lumsdeu trains were delayed owing 1 to encroachment of water on the line. No stock losses are reported. The steamer in Melbourne which was recently placed under offer to the New Zealand Trawling and Fish • Supply C6mpany did not come up to require* ments, and Mr R. S. Alward, the general manager of the company, returned to the Dominion yesterday without entering into any arrangements for the purchase of another vessel.
