MR. BONAR LAW- SPEAKS AT WALLSEND.

THE UNIONIST PLEDGE. SIR E. CARSON'S CAMPAIGN, (Received October 30, 12.10 p.m.) LONDON, 29th October. Mr. Bonar Law, Leader of the Unionist Party, addressing fifteen thousand people at Wallsend, said the pledge mado afc Blenheim on behalf of tho party still holds. He had followed Sir Edward Carson' 6 proceedings with the deepest sympathy, and believed that tho people of Ulster had shown throughout impressive qualities of determination and restraint. No bitter hostility had been manifested towards Nationalists. In all Sir Edward Carson's speeches his opponents would find no words of religious bigotry or any attack on the feelings of any Catholic. Mr. Bonar Lav/ continued: — "Wo will stand together, and, if necessary, fall together. (Cheers.) It is due to Sir Edward Carson alone that Ulster' 6 passions have been restrained. Britain never stood in graver peril ; the^ position ie comparable to that in America before the Civil War." He added that while the chief responsibility rested with the Government, the Unionists also had some responsibility ; but in such a crisis any question of party advantage should not weigh with them. It was as dust in the balance. The Government would be committing a crime if it pressed forward to extremes without consulting tho electorate. The Premier had claimed that the people were behind him % Why not test it? Mr. Asquith either feared the result or his bargain with the Nationalists prevented him from doing his duty to the country.
