Mr. Daniels, United States Secretary to the Navy, speaking at Mobile, said that the Panama Canal would double the power of the United States Navy, and enable it to defend the coasts either of the Atlantic or the Pacific. ! ■ At the same time he agreed with those who thought with Mr. Churchill (First Lord of the British Admiralty) that the j time had arrived for a' "naval holiday." The United States, he said, would welcome such a proposed.
