.*. Mr. W\ G. Riddell, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court to-day. Four first offenders for drunkenness' were leniently dealt with. George Tucker, charged with being guilty of disorderly conduct while drunk in Jervois-quay, and with using obscene language, was fined 20s, in default seven days' imprisonment, on the first charge, and £3, in default twenty-one days' imprisonment, on the second charge. Inspector Hendrey stated that the accused tried to incite a crowd, but fortunately a number of the strike pickets were present, and they prevented any interterenc* with the constable who arrested him. Benjamin Church, on a charge of drunkenness, was fined 10s, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment, and on a charge of obstructing Constable Tilyard in tho execution of his duty was fined £3, in default fourteen days' imprisonment. Frank Arnold, for drunkenness, was fined 10s, in default fortyeight hours' imprisonment, and Malcolm Brown, charged with disorderly conduct while drunk in Cuba-street, was fined 20s, iv default seven days' imprisonment. Sydney Huxley was fined 20s, in dofault seven days' imprisonment, for stealing two fewlSj.
