HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture, In- i dustries, and Commerce^has received the following- cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated' London, 25th October. (Note. — Quotations, unless otherwiee specified, are average market prices on spot) : — ■ Mutton.— The market is quiet, irith no change in prices. Lamb. — The market is dull. ' There is a poor demand for light-weight. Canterbury, two's, 6£d per lb ; other than Canterbury, s jd. , . ■ , ' ■ Beef. — The market is steady, , but prices have declined in sympathy' with chilled. New Zealand hinds, <4gd per lb | fores, 3id. Supplies of American chilled beef are large,, but are in the hands of a large number of sellers. Hinds, 5 6-16 d per lb ; fores, 3'5-16d. Butter. — The market is steady, with little alteration in prices. The demand exceeds the supply for best quality. A poor demand continues for butter at present in store. Danish, 133s to 136s per cwt j Siberian, 106s to 110s ; Australian, 114s to 1225; Argentine, 116s to 120. Cheese.— The market is quiet, with no alteration in prices for Canadian. Ther« is a 'firm market with a fair demand for English. English cheddar, 78s to 82s per cwt. Hemp.— -Ther* has been no material change in the market. Manila : The market is 6teady with moderate demand. Reports from Manila indicate that holders are firm. 'Fair current Manila, per ton, £30 10s for any position. The output from Manila lor the week was 17,000 bales. New Zealand : The market is quiet, but firm. Good fair grade, per ton, £29 ss; fair, £25 15s for all positions. Sisal : The Mexican political situation is unsettled. There is a steady New York market at 6 cents, equal to £28 per ton, c.i.f. Europe. Cocksfoot Seed. — The market is quiet. New 'Zealand seed has met with very little enquiry. Danish is firmer, and has. been offered at 48s per bushel. Kauri Gum. — There is a good demand and prices are dearer all round. There is only a small supply ; 147 packages offered, 10 sold. The stock at the end of September was 486 tons. Dark brown selected rescraped, £7 10s to £8 10s; dark brown three-quarter scraped, £4 15s to £5 5s ', dark brown chips, drossy, 50s to 555; rescraped pal© amber, £13 to £15: three-quarter pale scraped, £9 5s to £10; diggers' chips, good, £4 to £5.
