EXTRA EDITION. HUNTLY STRIKE

MR. SEMPLE'S ADVICE YOUNGER MEN LEAVING TOWN. (BT TELEGRAPH — PBESS ASSOCIATION.) HUNTLY, This Day. Matters are still quiet in connection with the Huntly strike. Miners' deputies, shift hands, and officials remain loyal. The chief event yesterday was bringing up the horses from the mines. Mr. R. Semple arrived at midday, and addressed a largely-attended meeting. He explained that what he had^ to say he spoke as anj individual, nob as a Federation official; but he was sure the Federation would take up their cause. He advised them to fix matters up with the company, peacefully if possible. A number of the younger men left town yesterday and to-day. The Union lOfficials, in a statement, say that it is ridiculous for the company to state it had discharged the men because it was lessening the number of its employees, as moi-e men were employed at coal on the last day the miners worked than at any time previously ; while sixteen unionists received notice fourteen new miners were put on, together with twelve truckers to work the coal, making twenty-six new men in the mines. The unionists also complain that a number of the discharged men have invested their life savings in sections of land bought from the company, have built homes, and are now compelled to sacrifice these at the bidding of a few men. • Over £3000 will be paid out by the company to-morrow for wages due.
