VICTORIA COLLEGE

MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. { The Victoria College Council met last evening, the chairman (Mr. H. H. Ostler) presiding. Other members present were : Sir Robert Stout, Dr, P. Knight, Messrs. W. Ferguson, J. G. VV. Aitken, C. B. Morison, K.C., R. M'Callum, M.P., C. Wilson, C. Watson, A. E. Atkinson, and W. H. Morton. The executive intimated that it approved the memorandum from the Professorial Board proposed to be sent to members of Parliament of the Middle District. The committee recommended the -council to arrange a meeting with ihe members of the district. This matter was taken in committee. The council received a request from Professor Laby to spend the sum of £50, subsidy to be paid on his donation for a Research scholarship, on such scholarship and to empower him to make an award of the scholarship during the coming year, in accordance with the arrangements arrived at when the donation was made. On the recommendation of the commitle© the application was granted. Accounts amounting to £1030 were passed for payment.
