FOR CLOSER SETTLEMENT

The County Council yesterday decided to suggest to the Land Purchase Board that the Awamate and Huram.ua estates, of about 4000 or 5000 acres, was suitable for closer settlement. OTAKI ITEMS [BT TELEGRAPH — SPECIAL TO THE POST.] OTAKI, 10th October. To-day the weather is wintry. Rain, of a welcome nature, fell last night, while showers also fell to-day. Unfortunately, they were accompanied with strong wind. At the monthly meeting of the State School Committee last night, it was arranged to promote a social function for the purpose of adding to the school funds, which at present are limited.
