[press association.] CLAIMS FOR DAMAGES TWO COLLISIONS. WANGANUI, sth' September. At the Supreme Court to-day, R. Connon proceeded against Mawa Tauri, claiming £501 damages. The case arose out of a collision which took place on 16th June, when Connon was cycling to Castlecliff to ccc the warship New Zealand and Ta.uri was motoring to town from the heads. Plaintiff said he could remember cycling past the hospital, but could' remember nothing that occurred, afterwards. His mind was a blank as to the accident, injuries to his head being responsible for loss of memory. He was in the hospital two months with a broken shoulder, fractured felcull, broken arm, and other injuries, and he had done hardly any work since. Other witnesses spoke as to the reckless manner in "which Tauri was driving. Defendant, a licensed motor-car driver, said ho was following closely behind a cab, awaiting an opportunity \o pass it, and when the time came he quickened his pace to fifteen miles an hour. When he saw the cyclist he endeavoured to go further off the road. Defendant pulled up and rendered' what aid he could. The jury returned a verdict for plaintiff for £140. A case was commenced this afternoon in which Mrs. Broad, widow of the late E W. Broad, who was killed at the Marton railway crossing through a train colliding with him when he was riding a motor cycle, claims £2000. The jury and Judge propose inspecting the crossing to-moTrow.
