MESSRS LUKE AND CO.'S FOUNDRY
Messrs. Niven and Co. have acquired tho well-known and old-established foundry and general engineering business of S. Luko and Co., Ltd. Tho purchase is in tho naUu'o of an ( amalgamation, Messrs. Luko receiving n large holding of shares for , their interest. Messrs. Niven have decided to transfer their headquarters from Napier to Wellington. Tho firm of S. Luko ond Son was established in 1870 in Wellington, when tho business of Gilchrist tind Waters, founded 1876 was taken over. The late Mr. S. Luke came out to Now Zealand from Peiizance in 1874. Tho company was formed in 1895, and for some years the business has been conducted by Hon. C. M. Luke and Mr. J. P. Luke, the presonl Mayor of Wellington.
Intimation has beon received by tho Upper Hutt School Committee from tho Education Board of the purchaso of a section adjoining tho present school there, for the purpose of school extension. A euchro party in aid of tho school funds is at present being arranged .by tho committed.
