GOOD WORK BY MAWSON EXPEDITION
MORE MONEY NEEDED "DEPUTATION TO FEDERAL PREMIER.* (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received September 6, 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day, Me, Cook, Federal Prime Minister, promised to consider the request by a deputation to grant £5000 towards 1 equipping the Aurora to bring sback the Mawson Antarctic party and wiping off the debts of the expedition. Professor David, in urging the claims for a grant, said the indebtedness of the expedition was £11,000, towards which the committee had about £6000. He pointed out the scientific importance of the expedition to Australia, partioularly as regards weather forecasting. Dr. Mawson, he said, had succeeded beyond j expectation in obtaining .valuable information Antarctic disturbances, and in consequence many shipwrecks each year might be averted.
