VESSEL WRECKED NEW YORK DELUGED. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received September 6, 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, sth Septemb*. News from Norfolk, Virginia, states that the schooner George Wells was wrecked near Cape Hatteras. Twenty men, two women, and some children were rescued. There has been great havoc along the coast, due to the hurricane. It i 3 reported that Ocracoke Island has been storm-swept, but no confirmation of ihe roport is forthcoming. New York was deluged. Three inches of water fell. The subways were flooded and business temporarily suspended. The basements of houses were also flooded. Electric pumps were used to make the Bubways practicable for traffic. NO LOSS OF LIFE. (Received September 6, 1.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, bth September. No loss of life occurred at Ocracoke Island.
