AUCKLAND FOOTBALL TEAM
The Auckland representative football team left for New Plymouth by the express this morning. Hall and Ross were somewhat bruised after Saturday's contest, but improved in condition after undergoing massage treatment, and there is no doubt they will be able to play in Thursday's match. The personnel of the team has not yefc been, decided upon, but there is a likelihood of Moffat replacing Lambert as full-back. In recognition of their victory on Saturday, the members of the Auckland football team were tendered a smoke "social" by Mr. A. M. Myers, M.P. Mr. Myers, however, was unfortunately unable to be present, and Mr. A. E. Glover, M.P., presided in his stead. The guests included tho Prime Minister (Hon. W. F. Massey), Hon. W. H. Herries, Mr. F. W. Lang (the Speaker), Hon. W. Beehan, Messrs. John Bollard, R. F. Bollard, J. S. Dickson. J. H. Bradney, J. G. Coates, R. W. Forbes, J. G. Anderson, M.P.'s. The toasts honoured were : — "Auckland Rugby Union," "House of Representatives," "Wellington Rugby Union," "Auckland Football Team," and "Wellington Football Team." The Chairman, in the course of a number of congratulatory speeches, said that Auckland's representatives had "nobly responded to the traditions of the Queen City." "Something was accomplished, something done," added Mr. Glover. "I am proud of you, and God bless you." Mr. Massey also spoke in warm praise of the display of the Aucklanders, and other eulogistic addresses were delivered.
