MEMBERS' COMPLAINTS. When the House of representatives went into Committee of Supply to resume ■consideration of the Estimates, tho first item brought into prominence was the estimate of £9250 to defray the salaries and expenses of th« members of -the ■ House of Representatives. Messrs. Forbes and Witty enquired as to whether they could discuss the question of the necessity of providing better accommodation for members. There was apparently no serious objection to the question being raised, and Mr. Witty emphasised the uncomfortable condition of the present Chamber. He made .pointed referenco to the Ventilation — or rather the lack of it. Mr. Hrndtnarsh said that members •were- such olrl women that they objected to fresh »air. He had got windows opened,/ but no sooner had the fresh air .rushed into the place than some baldheaded gentleman began to'pat hishead and then turned round to complain of •draughts. Men could not do justice to their work when they had to sit in a chamber " breathing each other' 3 ,"breath." The Hon. Mr. Fisber, who was the Minister in charge during the discussion, said that the whole of the quantities for ithe new building had been taken out, and the Government would as soon as /possible call for tenders for the erection of the new Chamber. He believed kit was possible to have the new Chamber •ready lor next session.
