♦ ■» Coadjutor Archbishop O*Shea\ and the Rev. Father Herring left for the South last night. Word has been privately received in Wellington of the death of Mr. J. O. Colbeck, a well-known Auckland business man. The Rev. Macdonald Aspland, of the Courtenay-plaee Congregational Church, has accepted the call to the Emmanuel Congregational Church, Palmerston North, and will take up his duties there about the beginning of October. Mr. 0. M. Whittington has been elected chairman of the Hawkes Bay Education Board for the\fifth successive term. Mr. J. Snodgraas has been elected president of the Napier Chamber of Commerce (states a Press Association telegram). The death occurred this morning of Mr. David Brand ..after a long illness. The late Mr. Brand, who was aged 44 years, arrived from Scotland when a boy, and was for many years associated with the firm of Macdonald, Wilson, and Co. Subsequently he went into business as an auctioneer with Mr. E. Johnston. The deceased was one of the founders of the Wellington Cycling Club, and was .esteemed and respected by a large circle of friends. He leaves a widow and two children.
