HARBOUR BOARD

The Wellington Harbour Board met last evening. There were present the Chairman (Mr. R. Fletcher), Messrs. 0. W. Jones, W. T. Hildreth, A. M'Farlane, J. Cobbe, R. A. Wright, J. Trevor, A. H. Hindmarsh, J. W. M'Ewan, A. H. Nathan, C. E. Daniell, and Captain Watson. The board resolved to authorise the engineer to procure a portable acetylene welding and cutting plant for repair work at an -estimated cost of f1145. By-laws relating to the new cheese store were approved and the charges fixed. The Chairman in reply to Mr. M'Farlane said the charges were lower than elsewhere ; in fact, they were Is per ton below Patea, which were 4s to shareholders and 5s to others. The question of the erection of a boat harbour at Petone was_held over pending the passage of legislation authorising local bodies to subßidieo harbour boards for 6uch works.
