DUCHESS AND COSTER CHILD 1

A duchess holding up a costermonger's child attired in the traditional pearlies, while a photograph was taken of both, was one of the sights at the donkey show held at Camberwell (London) on 7tli July, under the auspices of the South London Home for Costers' Donkeys. The lady was the Duchess of Portland, who presented the prizes won by the owners of successful "mokes," and the child, Lily Belcham, who wore "pearly" trousers, presented a bouquet of roses to her Grace. The latter at once pulled a magnificent carnation from a bunch which she wore at her waist, and gave it to the child in return, afterwards lifting her in her arms. Subsequently the little mite recited a short poem concerning "a donkey who wouldn't go," to the great amusement of the audience.
