NOTES AND COMMENTS
(By Sir Bedivere.)
It has been definitely arranged that Mi. T. H. Lowry'e A.J.C. Derby candidate Soltano will be shipped for Sydney on Friday hext in charge of his trainer, - F. Davis. He is not to be accompanied by Bobrikoff or any other of his owner's horses, and it may be taken for granted that he accomplished something fairly Bmart on the Greenmeadows tracks ere it was decided to ship him across the (water to take his chance Ag»ln«t Berngoon, Radnor, Andelosia, Beau Soult, Atheme, and the remainder of the Australian three-year-olds. This because Mr. Lowry assured me at the time of the Hawkes Bay Winter Meeting that unless the colt did do something useful he would remain in New Zealand. His trip to Australia will mean his having to forego his Wanganui Guineas engagement, and the first race that will claim his attention on hi* return to this Dominion will be the Great Northern i Guineas, - Soltano holds no liability in connection with'evente to be decided at Ricoarton this season, for, unfortunately, the closing of entries for a number of special weight and w.f.a. events wa« overlooked so far as he was concerned. He isj however, eligible to contest the following: Great rJorthern Guineas, Great Northern Derby, A.R.C. Royal Stakes, Egmont Stakes, Pahnertton North Stakes, Manawafcu Stakes, North Island Challenge Stokes, Wellington Stake*, and the twenty-third O.J.C. Challenge Stake* (to be run in 191$). A. J. M'Flynn. who wa* v unfortunate enough to receive a nasty crumpling right on the eve of the big winter fixtures, ha* now recovered sufficiently to be able to ride work and hopes to be fit enough to take a leg up in public at Avondale next month. Dearest, who has been spelling for three months, has again been taken up at Porirua. She is reported to have accumulated a lot of condition since laet seen out in public. Mr, Morse's handicaps for events to be decided at the Marton Spring Meeting are published herewith and will no doubt be studied with interest. Bronze is so far in advance of any of the others engaged in the Marton Handicap that' Mr. Morse has by no means been hard on her in awarding her 4\b. Manakau, Who has shown fair form in Sydney suburban courses recently, seems well enough placed, and if the going should happen be be Boft Ceylon wul take some beating, '•Owners and trainers are reminded that nominations, for the Wanganui and Dannevirke, epnng meetings are due on Monday. First forfeits are declarable on Monday for 1 the'Jaekaon Stakes. Acceptances for the Marton Spring Meeting are due on Tuesday. ,
