AWAITING THE NEWS. RAILWAY REPORTED TO BE CUT. (Received July 7, 9.10 a.m.) JOHANNESBURG, 6th July. Enormous eager crowds surrounded the newspaper offices when the settlement was announced. There was intense excitement and much scrambling for the special editions. Orderly meetings were held in Pretoria and other districts. Only three hundred troops remain at Potchefstroom, consisting of sappers and gunners. Fifteen of the former were requisitioned to drive the trains in the event of the railwaymen striking. It is reported that the railway between Gei'miston and Pretoria has been cut. The police and military are watching all the roads leading to Pretoria. * PRIOR TO THE STRIKE MEN CONSULT MINE MANAGERS. (Sydney Sun Special Cable.) (Received July 7, 8.5 ' a.m.) JOHANNESBURG, 6th July. On the whole of the Rand seven thousand went out. The men discussed with the manager of the Robinson Mine whether s they should or should not go out. The manager said he had no means of protecting them, and feared the machinery would be wrecked should work continue in progress. He therefore advised them to strike.
