MAGISTRATE'S COURT

To-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court was presided over by Mr. W. G, Riddell, S.M. «. A charge of the theft of a parcel of clothing, valued at 30s, the property of Alexander M'MUlan, was admitted by Mary Louisa Scott. The accused took the parcel from the bar of an hotel, and was arrested while in the act of entering a second-hand Bhop. The accused, who .has one previous conviction for theft against her, was fined 40s, with the option of seven days' imprisonment. For drunkenness., two first offenders had their bail estreated. Charges of threatening behaviour and resisting a police-constable were ad mitted by Ernest Albert Stevens. The accused had resisted the arresting constable for fully half an hour, and had repeatedly kicked his captor. On the first charge % he was fined 40s, with the alternative of seven days' imprisonment, while for the second offence he was sent to gaol for 14 days. •»
