FRENCH PRESIDENT IN LONDON BRILLIANT RECEPTION ' PRESENTATION OF AN ADDRESS AND GOLD CASKET. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received June 26, 10 a.m.) LONDON, 25th June. The French President (M. Poincare) was escorted by Life Guards to the Guildhall, where there Was a brilliant reception and luncheon. The Lord Mayor presented an address and a gold caeket set with diamonds to the President. Crowds along the tout* to the Guildhall gave the distinguished visitor an ovation. THE BANQUET AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE. SPEECHES BY KING AND PRESIDENT. "DEEPLY-ROOTEd"" FRIENDSHIP." LONDON, 26th June. The guests at the banquet at Buckingham Palace in honour of the French President (M. Poincare) and the French Foreign Minister (M. PLchon) numbered 130, including many Royal personages, Ambassadors, Ministers, and ex-Mini/s-ters. The tables were decorated with the French colours, red roses, white orchids, and blue delphiniums, while the Yeomen of the Guard formed a cordon around the tables. The gold plate from Windsor Castle was utilised. King George, speaking in French, r# ferred to the advantages of the inter course of many centuries. The resttlt had been a steady growth of deep, mutual respect, and goodwill. The amicable agreement of 1904 had drawn the two nations together by a growing sense of unity, interest, and identity of purpose. "The chief of our common interests," said His Majesty, "lies in, close co-operation for peace. The King emphasised the inestimable advantage of a spirit of mutual confidence and frankness between France and Britain in dealing with the grave problems of the past month. M. Poincare, replying in French, thanked His Majesty for- the warm welcome extended to him. Angl6-Freficb. friendship was now deeply rooted in the popular mind.
