CANTERBURY GRAIN MARKET
(BT TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.! CHRISTCHURCH, 9th May. The looal grain market has been very quiet during tho week, and business was chiefly confined to purchasing a few lines of oats. Practically no wheat is offering but Tuscan, for which there is not a very active demand. Hunters and Pearl being only enquired for. The former variety is firmer. The oats market is rather weaker in consequence of adverse reports regarding tho probable demand from Australia. Holders are, however, firm and offerings are not very plentiful. The chaff market is firmer, and it is reported that purchases for Dunedin are being made in Canterbury — an unusual demand, as tho south is generally well supplied, and tho present domand is no doubt on account of the adverse- harvest season in tho south. Quotations are now £3 5s to £3 10s 011 trucks. The potato market is quiet, and buyers generally aro offering only £3 15s, while growers aro mostly holding for £4. Some salca havo been mado at £3 15a and £3 17b 6d, at country stations.
