ARBITRATION COURT
CASES IN DUNEDIN. (BY TEtKOItAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, 7th May. When the Arbitration Court was dealing with the dispute in the brewery and bottling trade, Mr. Macmanus, for the union, opposed the application for certain exemptions. He contended that as an agreement was reached on 14th January, two days prior to the last sitting of the Court, the award should be made retrospective. Decision was deferred. In the operative tailors and tailoresses' dispute, objection was raised to the citation of reteii drapers on the ground that they were not employers. The union applied to have the award dated from Ist March, con<tending that, as all retailers were cited before the Commissioner the objection came too late. On the President's- suggestion that a further conference be held between the parties, an adjournment of the hearing for a week was granted. In the Dunedin trawlers' case Mr. Breen, for th* union, moved that the case be struck out, which the employers opposed, asking for an award. The application was accordingly withdrawn. In the farriers' dispute, Mr. Pryor, for the Southland coachbuilders, objected to Southland employers being added to any reference. The matter was adjourned for a week to enable the parties to agree to a limitation of radius around Dunedin. The metal worker*' assistants applied for the Commissioner's recommendations to be embodied in an award. The employers take exception to the clause affecting existing contracts. The hearing I is proceeding. I
