CARTERTON MATTERS
[BY TBLEGBAPK— SPECIAL TO THE POST.] CARTERTON, This Day. The installation of the Mayor and councillors for the borough of Carterton took place at the Council Chambers last night. The South Wairarapa Poultry, Pigeon, and Cage Bird Association has been allotted 23rd and 24th July as dates for. its annual show. Mr. F. R. Ellis, of the local Post Office staff, has been transferred to the tipper Hutt, and will be succeeded here by Mr. H. Simmonds. Prior to leaving Mr. Ellis was the recipient of a travelling rug as a token of esteem from the staff. ! Mr. D. G. Sustins, postmaster, made the presentation. The Rev. Dr. Gibb, of St. John's j Church, Wellington, is to give an address here on Monday evening on the Bible-in-schools question. At a meeting of the Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade last evening, three new members were elected. It was resolved to commence the euchre tourha\ments on Friday, 16th May, and a committee was set up to make the necessary arrangements. Unsettled weather prevails here. Tuesday was a beautiful day, but during ,the evening rain set in, and continued throughout the best part of Wednesday.
