If' ANNUAL MEETING. ■ . Mr. W. A. Flavell presided over the annual meeting -fof the New. Zealand Competitions Society, held last evening ia the committee room of th& Town Hall. I There were twelve persona v present. The report and balance-sheet, already published, were adopted. The following officers were elected :—: — Patron, His Excellency Lord Liverpool; president, M,r. T. M, Wilford; vicepresidents, Messrs. D. M. Findlay, J. ,H. Clark, W. H. Atack, and Flavell; committee, Messrs. J. F. 0. Oakes, E. H. Queree,. W. E. Fuller, F. W. Haybittle, R. A. Keenan, and J. Carr; auditor, Mr. J. Whitta-Thornton. Thanks wera expressed to the Cfty Council, the dqnors of special prizes, and the press. , Mr. Flavell, at the conclusion of the fOEma^ business, mentioned, that the City Council referred, back to the finance Committee the society's application for the usual grant of £50. A great deal of money had passed from the society to the council, and, he hpped th^t they would grant assistance, as they had done 1 in the past. -The Christchur,ch Council received .no rent from the Clonlpetitiqns Society, but they had made a grant of £50 to that body. In Wellington £265 had been paid over in rent. It was interesting to hots that the Auckland competitions were being held this year under the auspices of the Professional Musicians' Society;. * In Wellington the professional musician's had been inclined] to belittle the society's efforts, a condition that he hoped would not long obtain^ here. When the new City Council waa elected the speaker thought that arrangements should be made to. obtain the same grant as h4d been given in the last two I years. In conclusion, the Chairman added that thanks were due to the Town Hall staff for their great assistance... 'Ai vote of thanks was; also passed to Revs. ' Father Hickson and E. 0\ Blamifes for past -Bounces. „.. - \y,- < iU, - j. ■"'!! r 1 ' J > in ■'- > :
